Overview
JRLX was chosen to provide a complete LED chancel lighting solution for First Congregational Church of Downers Grove.
The previous lighting system consisted of tungsten halogen ellipsoidals and remote dimmer packs running on an antiquated simple fader console. The fixtures were both hot and inefficient while remaining difficult to access for maintenance and lamp changes. After considering other proposals, the church decided on JRLX’s proposal which consisted of removing the preexisting lighting equipment a dimmers and installing Altman Pegasus 6 Fresnel luminaires in a 3oooK white light configuration for calculated keylight.
Elation SixPAR 200s were also installed for front-light color washing of the chancel platform area with one SixPAR 200 acting as color-changing backlight on the hanging cross centerpiece. A Pathway Connectivity Cognito lighting control console and Vignette architectural control station was also installed by JR Lighting Design, Inc.
The end result was a much more dynamic and flexible lighting system that saved thousands of watts of energy, generated almost no appreciable heat, and allowed for creative use of color as a theatrical element to transform the space whilst being 100% maintenance-free.
